Good morning 

Distinguished guests, industry partners, colleagues, students, ladies and gentlemen, good morning and welcome to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

It is a great pleasure to welcome all of you to the
Better Health, Better Lives 2.0 – UKM Global Impact Dialogue & Book Launch.

Today reflects something we strongly believe in at UKM—that when universities, industry, and passionate individuals come together, we can create solutions that make a real difference to society.

We are honoured to collaborate with Better Health, Better Lives, KJ Institute, and Roths Investment Bank in bringing together education, innovation, and community impact on one platform.

One of today’s highlights is the launch of the UKM Global Impact Challenge, an initiative that encourages young people to transform ideas into meaningful action. We hope this challenge will inspire students to become not only successful graduates, but future leaders who serve society with purpose and compassion.

I would also like to thank all our distinguished guests from China, and the United States and also Malaysia for joining us today. Your presence reflects the power of international collaboration in advancing education, research, and social impact.

To our students, I encourage you to listen, ask questions, and be inspired. Every meaningful journey begins with one idea and the courage to take the first step.

A very warm welcome to the Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

It is truly a great honour and privilege for us to host the distinguished delegation from Yunnan Minzu University here today. Your presence brings us immense pleasure, and we are deeply appreciative of the time you have taken to visit us during your time in Malaysia.

We recognize Yunnan Minzu University as a prestigious and historic institution, established in 1951, renowned for its rich cultural diversity, academic excellence, and its significant role as a gateway for international academic engagement in China, particularly across South Asia and Southeast Asia. Your strength in multilingual education and cross-cultural scholarship is both admirable and inspiring.

 Allow me to share briefly about IVI.

Established in 2010, IVI is a multidisciplinary research centre of excellence in the field of Computer Science and ICT, with a specialization in Visual Informatics. Our core research areas include Virtual Reality, Visualisation and Simulation, Computer Vision, Intelligent Data Analytics, Image Processing, and Human-Computer Interaction. What makes IVI unique is our emphasis on integrating these advanced technologies with various domains such as medicine, engineering, education, heritage, and socio-economics, with the aim of improving quality of life and advancing knowledge for society.

At IVI, we strongly believe that meaningful innovation happens through collaboration. Therefore, visits such as this are not merely ceremonial, but serve as important platforms to initiate dialogue, share expertise, and explore potential academic and research partnerships between our institutions.

We sincerely hope that today’s engagement will be the beginning of a long-term relationship between IVI UKM and Yunnan Minzu University — one that will foster joint research initiatives, academic exchange, and impactful collaborations soon.

Later in the programme, Dr. Marizuana Mat Daud, our Head of Industry Engagement and Income Generation, will present an introduction and promotional video to give you a clearer insight into the work and facilities of IVI.

Once again, on behalf of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Institute of Visual Informatics, I warmly welcome all of you to IVI. We look forward to a fruitful, engaging, and inspiring session together.

Saya ingin merakamkan ucapan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada seluruh warga Institut Informatik Visual (IVI), UKM. Semoga sambutan Aidilfitri kali ini dipenuhi dengan keberkatan, kegembiraan serta mengukuhkan lagi hubungan silaturahim antara kita, keluarga dan sahabat handai.

Dalam kegembiraan menyambut perayaan ini, marilah kita terus mengamalkan perbelanjaan secara bijaksana serta sentiasa berhati-hati di jalan raya demi keselamatan diri dan orang tersayang. Semoga warga IVI sentiasa berada dalam lindungan-Nya.

My greetings of Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all the staff of the Visual Informatics Institute (IVI), UKM. May this Aidilfitri celebration be filled with blessings, joy and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between us, our families and friends.

Program Sijil Professional Data Excellence Series ini dirangka sebagai satu inisiatif bagi memperkasa kemahiran profesional dalam bidang data analytics, data engineer dan data insight yang merupakan teknologi digital berasaskan AI yang kini menjadi pemacu utama dalam ekonomi negara. Melalui program ini, para peserta akan didedahkan kepada pengetahuan serta kemahiran praktikal yang relevan dengan keperluan industri semasa.

 

Dalam hal ini, pihak Institut Informatik Visual amat menghargai sokongan yang diberikan oleh pihak industri, khususnya Karim Engineering Sdn. Bhd., yang sudi menjadi penaja kepada program ini. Sokongan seperti ini bukan sahaja membantu memperkukuhkan pelaksanaan program, malah turut mencerminkan kepercayaan pihak industri terhadap kepakaran dan peranan universiti dalam pembangunan bakat masa hadapan.

WELCOME SPEECH FOR NEW STUDENTS OF IVI (March 2026)

 

Greetings everyone,

It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you to the beginning of your postgraduate journey. Today marks an important milestone in your academic and professional lives. By choosing to pursue postgraduate studies, you have taken a bold and meaningful step toward deepening your knowledge, expanding your skills, and contributing to the advancement of your field.

Postgraduate education is different from what many of you may have experienced before. It is not only about attending lectures or completing assignments—it is about inquiry, discovery, and intellectual curiosity. You will be challenged to think critically, to question existing ideas, and to develop new perspectives. At times, the journey may feel demanding, but it is precisely through these challenges that growth and innovation emerge.

As postgraduate students, you are now part of a vibrant scholarly community. Here in the Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI), you will have the opportunity to learn from distinguished faculty members, collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and engage in research that can make a meaningful impact on society. I encourage you to take full advantage of these opportunities—participate actively in discussions, seek guidance from your supervisors, and support one another along the way.

Remember that success in postgraduate studies is not achieved alone. It is built through collaboration, perseverance, and a passion for learning. There will be moments of uncertainty, but these moments often lead to the most significant breakthroughs.

I also encourage you to maintain balance in your journey. While academic excellence is important, your well-being and personal growth are equally vital. Build networks, form friendships, and create memories that will stay with you long after you complete your degree.
